TO RESTORE LOST HEALTH, A LIFESTYLE CHANGE IS NECESSARY

Samuel Langhorne Clemens, best known as “Mark Twain”, was an American writer, humorist, entrepreneur, publisher, and lecturer. He was praised as the greatest humorist the United States ever had produced. He was also called “the Father of American Literature”. One of his famous quotes in relation to health states, “The only way to keep your health is to eat what you don’t want, drink what you don’t like, and do what you’d rather not.”



The quote specifically mentions three factors - food, beverage, and activity. When I entertain patients, I always mention that the root causes of any disease are first, the lack of essential nutrients that weakens the cells, and second, the excess of toxins that injure and damage them. Let me discuss the importance of the three factors.


There are six essential nutrients that provide nourishment to the cells of the body. They are carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, and water. They are called essential because the body does not manufacture them and so, it is very critical that they should always be present in the daily diet. The first four nutrients are readily available on the dining table unless the person is truly deprived, most possibly due to extreme poverty. Minerals and water, surprisingly, are the most ignored and neglected essential nutrients. Today, people prefer drinking tongue-pleasing, colored commercial beverages over plain, simple water. I would probably blame the enticing advertisements most companies engage in to attract customers to cater to their products. However, unknown to many, water plays a critical role in the maintenance of our health. I always compare the human body to a car engine. If the vehicle operates on gasoline, the driver should never fill the fuel tank with any other fuel but gasoline, regardless of the price of the fuel. If the vehicle operates on diesel fuel, this must be the only fuel designed for the optimal performance of the engine.



It is just very unfortunate that people love their vehicles more than their bodies. Despite my consistent advice on the vital roles water plays in health, well-being, and longevity, people still continue their love for various commercial beverages and then wonder why their health never improves despite years of maintaining their medications. Dr. Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, in his book “Your Body’s Many Cries For Water” boldly states that the foundation of bad health today is founded on the misconception that any fluid containing water does the job to quench thirst. He continued to declare that water is the only prescribed beverage for the human body and nothing substitutes for water. You are not sick, you are only thirsty, so, do not treat thirst with medication.


Minerals are another neglected essential nutrient. Numerous studies dating back 1936 revealed that the foods we eat today-vegetables, fruits, meat, grains, seeds, eggs, milk-no longer contain the healthy minerals that we need to achieve health. Minerals, like water, play vital functions. These are M-maintain electrical impulses; I-improve muscle actions; N-neutralize stress; E-extract toxins out of the cells; R-regulate water contents of the body; A-activate enzymatic functions; L-load up to strengthen the immune system; and S-sustain cell life. These functions demand that the body should be supplemented regularly with minerals to achieve the desired health and well-being. The fast-paced life today has forced many to rely on fast foods, instant foods, processed foods, refined foods, and junk foods to fill up their hungry stomachs. These foods have no nutritional values and thus, further deprive the starving cells making them weaker and more prone to dysfunctions resulting in various diseases.



With the advancement of technology, people have become more sedentary. In some places, robotics has prevented people from engaging in many physical activities even in the houses. The invention of numerous household equipment and appliances made household chores more relaxing. Machines have prevented people from performing basic exercise, walking. This has resulted in more obese individuals suffering from various types of arthritis, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. People have become more sedentary with the invention of smart mobile phones.


We should go back to the basics where God gave us the guidelines to live a happier life without any worries. But the stubbornness of man would never free him from various sufferings because it is only in obedience that we are truly blessed. Disobedience brings a curse.



I write this article because I have encountered numerous individuals seeking miracles to happen in their lives. Surprisingly, they do not want to make lifestyle changes that are the primary cause of their illnesses. It is well said that doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is insanity. If you are sick and tired of being “sick” and “tired”, I have a better option for you. Better in the sense that I offer you nutrients that will revitalize you and boost your immune system. They will also help detoxify your body to prevent your cells from deteriorating further. Adopt this more natural approach and enjoy life again even in your senior years, just like me.
