WHEN DISASTER STRIKES

By Mary Jane O. Velasquez

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

Throughout a year, it is inevitable that our country faces a number of calamities, one of which are typhoons. This is because we are geographically located on the “Typhoon Belt” or “Typhoon Alley” of the Pacific Ocean. Last October 25, 2020, Typhoon Quinta caused grievous damages to 15 provinces, and its aftermath can still be felt today.

Because we are facing it every year, the Filipino people, particularly in Luzon, becomes more resilient with each strike. They make sure that the roofs can hold by placing sacks of sand, hollow blocks, repair slight damages and places makeshift covers on windows. People buy foods that are sufficient for during and after the typhoon and also brace themselves for days or weeks of power shut down. They get ready with basic necessities in case they need to evacuate, and rearrange furniture that might be damaged by sudden floods and strong winds.

Even though we are prepared for this calamity, we still get scared when it actually happens. We pray for our loved ones, those that are in far flung areas, near the coast lines, and the ones on the farm land, that they may be safe through the course of the typhoon. These families that live in very risky places are the ones brought to the evacuation center.

While we are thankful that they are safe, their stay inside the evacuation center also causes potential harm to them. Families that had their houses severely damaged by the typhoon spent days in the evacuation center being cramped together. Not only are we aware of the COVID-19 regulations and how this pandemic is still at large, but also because other infections like colds, cough and flu are circulating inside the center that might gravely affect the children and the senior citizens. These families also are not aware of how infection happens in specificity, and they are also unaware of people inside the evacuation center that might have a chronic disease that can severely infect others such as tuberculosis.

This is why it is important to observe social distancing and also to boost their immune system through the help of IONIQUE® Mineral Drops and water. Dr. Renato U. Paragas, the WATERDOK of the Philippines, gave emphasis to IONIQUE® Mineral Drops and water as boost in our immune system. “Magnesium is nothing short of a miracle mineral in its healing effect on a wide range of diseases, as well as in its ability to rejuvenate the aging body. Many are also not aware that magnesium, in the form of magnesium chloride, is an impressive infection fighter. With the correct intake of purified drinking water supplemented with magnesium chloride (best source being IONIQUE® Mineral Drops), the immune system can be boosted remarkably and the body can have a better capability to fight against various infections and probably against SARS CoV 2 as well. Prevention is better than cure!” The barangay council should also administer it to these families so that they have their health as their first asset when they are rising up again from the aftermath of the typhoon, and to themselves as well, so that they can serve with their best state. https://www.ioniqueminerals.com/shop

Another important matter to note is, families that are in the evacuation centers are given with relief goods of rice, noodles, canned goods, and powdered coffee or milk. While this is a good gesture and keeps families from famine, instant foods mentioned above are toxins that slowly damages their internal systems. The following explanations are taken from Dr. Paragas’ article entitled “COVID-19: A HIGH PRICE TO PAY FOR DISOBEDIENCE”.

“Instant noodles are highly processed to bear a longer shelf life. They are low on nutritive content; high on fat, calories and sodium; and are laced with artificial colors, preservatives, additives and flavorings. According to Dr. Sunil Sharma, general physician and head of emergency, Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital, New Delhi, monosodium glutamate (MSG) as well as tertiary-butyl hydroquinone (TBHQ) - chemical preservatives derived from the petroleum industry - may be present in instant noodles for their taste enhancing and preserving properties and their regular intake can cause severe health issues.”

“Most canned foods have a plastic coating inside the can to supposedly keep the food, vegetables, and fruits fresh. The inner plastic lining is poisonous at small measures, although FDA tells us that the small amounts should not worry us too much. This plastic coating is Bisphenol or BPA for short and it is harmful because humans are not supposed to eat plastic material made from crude oil. BPA kills rats in laboratories even at smaller portions like 1,000 times less than what an average person consumes per meal. BPA is also a toxic chemical that causes hormone imbalances and wide variety of health issues ranging from hypertension, aggression, heart disease, obesity to cancer. No logical, reasonable person would suggest that canned foods and canned fruits and vegetables are as good as or better than fresh foods, vegetables and fruits. It is obvious that fresh is good and retains most of its nutrients.

What most people are unaware of is that most often foods are put into aluminum cans, then sealed, and cooked, supposedly retaining the freshness. Well, it certainly retains the aluminum free radicals after heating and contaminating the contents. Over a period of time, aluminum accumulation in body can cause memory problem like Alzheimer’s disease. Most canned foods like soups, vegetables, chicken and beef broths are made of aluminum because it’s more economical.”

Coffee has caffeine. “Caffeine tolerance varies between individuals, but for most people, a dose of over 400 mg per day may produce some initial symptoms: restlessness, increased heartbeat, and insomnia. Higher dosages can lead to increased blood pressure; heart palpitation; anxiety and panic attacks; gastrointestinal disturbance; increased urination; dizziness, irritability, nausea, nervousness and jitters; allergic reaction can include rash, hives, itching, breathing difficulty, tightness of the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips or tongue, diarrhea, shakiness, sleeping disturbance, vomiting; headaches and severe fatigue.” Caffeine is also a diuretic. It forces the kidneys to eliminate more urine than normal. One loses three cups of water for every cup of coffee one drinks. So, to compensate for the water loss, one has to drink nine cups of water for every three cups of coffee he takes during the day’s work. Failure to compensate for this water loss will cause the shrinkage of various organs leading to various diseases such as migraine headache, asthma, hypertension, diabetes, goiter, arthritis, kidney failure, myoma, cataract, various cancers and many more. Even mild dehydration affects brain function causing poor focus, short attention span, poor memory and comprehension and many more.”

Instead of giving them these instant foods, give them relief foods that are cooked fresh such as goto, champorado, and macaroni soup. For their beverage, only give them water. The rice can be accompanied by a vegetable and cooked, or given raw. This also applies to the families that are not temporarily staying inside the evacuation centers but are receiving relief goods. If the relief food is cooked, do not put preservatives. “Preservatives are substances considered as not drastically harmful to healthy people but they may be harmful to pregnant women, babies, children, elderly or those suffering from a chronic disease,” added by Dr. Paragas. Use only natural ingredients to give wholesome flavors such as salt and pepper. One magnificence of IONIQUE® Mineral Drops is that it can also be used as flavoring for your food. Add 5 to 10 drops on a big serving before cooking.

To you, reader: always boost your immune system with water and IONIQUE® Mineral Drops and avoid the intake of toxins from instant foods to strengthen and preserve your health.

There are impending threats of two super typhoons that are going to hit the country this month.

Let us continuously pray to the Lord that we remain safe through the threats of these typhoons and with other calamities. With this, I hope that even in our trying times, we still opt to help one another to be safe by prioritizing our health and well-being.

“Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear;

Then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.” Isaiah 58:8
