NUTRITION AND HEALTH

by Mary Jane O. Velasquez

“To eat is a necessity, but to eat intelligently is an art.”

– Francois de La Rochefoucauld

With the month of July coming to an end, we give importance to the awareness that schools have taught us to remember: the nutrition month.

Nutrition is the processes (physiological and biochemical) of the body that is ultimately affected by the food that we take and gives importance to diet, health, disease and development. According to World Health Organization, a better nutrition is connected to “stronger immune systems, lower risk of non-communicable diseases (such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease), safer pregnancy, childbirth, improved infant, child and maternal health, and longevity.”

There are six (6) essential nutrients that we need daily to be in our optimal health. These are: Carbohydrates, Proteins, Fats, Vitamins, Minerals and Water. If we observe what we eat in three (3) meals each day, carbohydrates are always present as simple sugars in rice, bread, pasta and flour products like biscuits. Proteins are found in eggs and the meat products such as pork, beef, chicken, and fish, in which fats are also present. Vitamins are abundantly found in vegetables and fruits and can also be taken in a form of dietary supplement.

What about water and the minerals? Yes, we may say that we are drinking water after our meals or when we get thirsty, but is it enough to supply the various systems? No! We always take it for granted, never realizing the essence of water in our lives, which is 70% of our body composition. In a generalized manner, only a few minerals are contained in vegetables and fruits, but we are not aware of how much our body requires, what specific minerals we should take, and what health effects they bring to our internal body.

Now that our water and minerals are compromised, we still eat and drink a lot of man-made foods and tend to overload our body with toxins. Not only do we dismiss the natural benefits of water, but we also substitute it with synthetic beverages which make the cells thirstier and more acidic. This is why diseases arise, or in this time of pandemic, COVID-19 and its mutated variants attack our bodies.

Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, left a reminder for us since ancient times that we should "let our food be our medicine, and medicine be our food" to witness the importance of nutrition in the prevention or cure of disease.

Dr. Paragas also stated, "Let water and minerals, the magnificent, life-sustaining creations of God, be the answers to your fervent prayers for health and healing." Water and minerals are the two most neglected essential nutrients of the body. Water gives vital functions in the body that are summarized in its letters: (1) W- Works to keep body cells toned; (2) A- Assists in weight loss; (3) T- Transports nutrients and oxygen throughout the body; (4) E- Eliminates acidic metabolic wastes and toxins out of the body; and (5) R- Regulates body temperature. On the other hand, minerals are the sparks of life. The role of minerals in our body can also be summarized in its letters: M – Maintain electrical nerve impulses, I – Improve muscle actions, N – Neutralize stress, E – Extract toxins out of the cells, R – Regulate water contents of the body, A – Activate enzymatic functions, L – Load up to strengthen the immune system, and S – Sustain cell life.

Therefore, we should always drink water enough to supply our whole internal systems with proper hydration, the formula of which is 50 ml/kg/day. Along with an adequate supply of purified water, we should supplement it with IONIQUE® Concentrated Mineral Drops, with a dose of 20 drops four times a day to boost our immune system more naturally while helping our cells achieve better nutrition. Every drop of IONIQUE® Mineral Drops contains 72 macro- and trace minerals that are vital for every physiological and biochemical processes of our human body. Dr. Gary Price Todd, author of “Nutrition, Health and Disease” declared: “The human body needs at least 60 trace minerals in order to maintain a disease- and illness-free state.”

May this nutrition month give us the needed awareness that the six essential nutrients should be balanced in our daily food intake to prevent disease and provide boost in our immune systems. Eat more nutritious foods and not the processed or instant ones, drink water only for it is the only prescribed beverage for the human body, get some sunlight and exercise regularly. Having the best nutrition ultimately gives us protection from the pandemic that we still face today. We should take good care of the only body that has been there for us in every day that we course through our lives. In return, it will thank us through a great feeling in our being because of good health.

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

– 1 Corinthians 10:31
