FROM THE STUDENTS’ PERSPECTIVE

Updated: Feb 21, 2021

“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” Psalm 55:22

Before this pandemic, the idea of having online classes is not practical, efficient, and student-friendly, among other more reasons in a country like ours. It was an impossible idea. First, the internet speed in the Philippines is too slow. It cannot cater every one’s virtual demand for a special assignment. Second, in a time that everyone is having a hard time earning money, and with many families that are relying to the traditional learning of students, not everyone can afford the online learning system. The poor families would have to resort to loaning, just to afford buying gadgets like a mobile phone, a tablet, a laptop and for the consumption of load. Third, there are too many factors influencing the learning focus of the students. Scenarios like being called by one of their family members to do an errand, the background noise made by siblings, pets, cars, to name a few; the association of social media applications in a gadget, and the announced or unannounced power interruptions. Lastly, the mental health of the students is affected. What they were experiencing was new to them. It disrupted the “body rhythm” that they had when face-to-face classes was still permitted. These were the major problems encountered during the administering of online classes.

Fast forward to the present, the students have been under the online and modular learning for almost a year. The real question reveals: Is the solution of online and modular learning to cope for students’ level of education effective?

To check, let us look at the progress up to now through the given problems above. Looking at the first problem, the internet speed is still too slow, but most of the teachers are lenient on this matter. They have given ample time for the students to finish their online assignments and modules. This may not be the case for every student, especially with balancing more than five subjects in a week. They would feel exhausted, because after one activity is done, another one is due, and this is speaking for all the subjects of the student.

The second one stated the financial problems of families. This has been given a solution: modular learning for students with moderate to no internet access. The problem with this mode is, not all family members are available, or can teach their child’s questions on a subject matter. The deadline is also a pressure to them. The student would feel that they are abandoned or not taken seriously and eventually would not do the said task.

The third problem is about the learning focus of the students. Online learning through Google Classroom and Zoom meetings has helped students to focus on the subject matter when the teacher is also using an interactive technique. Students would prepare themselves for the subject matter, but external noises and sudden power interruptions are beyond their control. The student would feel irritation and panic, especially when they are having an online quiz that has limited time and the power suddenly gets interrupted, or if their gadget being used is lagging.

The fifth problem states about the mental health of the students. When they may feel bombarded by the series of activities, lectures, reading materials, major outputs and examinations, they would tend to have their own demand for relaxation and unwind. Given the threat of COVID-19 and its mutated variants, not every student can do this. Even if some have the time, they are commanded to do more tasks out of their school works.

These major problems presented a common problem to the students: piled-up stress.

Piled-up stress would result to irritation, tiredness, lack of sleep, anxiety, stomach problems and burn out that are unhealthy signs. If this keeps up, their bodies would demand more rest, and eventually would force them to schedule a few days off. It would also lead to the weakening of the immune system, resulting to pathological microorganisms entering the body. They may feel feverish, develop runny nose, body pains and migraine. Another contributor to migraine is the radiation from using a gadget for the whole day causing eye strain or blurry vision.

In every malady, there is a right solution. Therefore, the stress that they feel can be lessened and neutralized.

Dr. Renato U. Paragas, the WATERDOK of the Philippines, the medical director of VER1REV Enterprise, and the author of three books - “The #1 Reason Why You’re Sick”, “The #1 Reason Why You’re Diabetic”, and “The #1 Reason Why You’re Hypertensive” – explained in his online article entitled “THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH”, how water with minerals is important in giving the body its proper nutrients to not feel any kind of disease, including stress.

There are six basic essential nutrients that the human body requires. These are carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and water. From the list, minerals and water are the most neglected and ignored. If there is a lack in any of the essential nutrients, their associated vital functions cannot happen.

The abbreviation of W.A.T.E.R. has their own function inside our body.

They are:

(1) Works to keep body cells toned;

(2) Assists in weight loss;

(3) Transports nutrients and oxygen throughout the body;

(4) Eliminates acidic metabolic wastes and toxins out of the body; and

(5) Regulates body temperature. If one of the functions did not happen due to deficiency, the disease is felt right after.

The vital functions of MINERALS are the following: M – maintain electrical nerve impulses, I – improve muscle actions, N – neutralize stress, E – extracts toxins out of the cells, R – regulate water contents of the body, A – activate enzymatic functions, L – load out to strengthen the immune system, and S – sustain cell life. The same with the function of water, if one is hindered from deficiency, the disease is soon to occur.

“The N in MINERALS is stated as ‘Neutralize stress.’ According to Dr. Paragas’ first book, ‘The #1 Reason Why You’re Sick’, he explained in physiological terms that stress is neutralized when the amount of dehydration in our body is quenched. ‘Stress of any form is due to the lack of neurochemicals that influence the proper functioning of the brain cells. Neuronal synapses require adequate chemicals to smoothly transmit nerve impulses. Deficiencies in these chemicals cause stress and may become worse if the lack of minerals is not addressed. Dr. Fereydoon Batmanghelidj cited that the number one cause of stress to the human body is dehydration. Minerals play a vital role in distribution and absorption of water into the cells.’”

“Stress also triggers our rash emotions of irritability, easily getting angry and builds a lot of pressure that we tend to overthink, eventually clouding our decision-making state. Drinking water supplemented with IONIQUE® Mineral Drops is also a great tranquilizer. Your thoughts will be refreshed and you will feel the energy suddenly pumping into your brain, leading you to managing your stress, doing tasks in your best state of mind and health, and most importantly, you would not unintentionally release your stress on your loved ones and friends.”

The stated effects of stress above can be managed by letting the student comply with the proper hydration supplemented with IONIQUE® Minerals.

We should let the students feel the fulfillment in education and not make them feel a passerby to their learnings. We should remind them that they study because they have goals, aspirations, and dreams, and we should be the stepping stone for them to achieve it. We should talk to them when we see that they are having a hard time and comfort them. After all, our encouragement and presence are the motivation that they need. Lastly, the most important action to do is for them to remember to breathe, rest and pray.

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” 1 Peter 5:7

FOR THE STUDENTS

BBelieve in God’s way of controlling the situation for He knows all efforts given.

RRest, for it will take a toll on the body if kept delayed.

EEngage with the natural stress relief: water, minerals, and the nature.

AAttend to oneself by eating the right kind of food and looking away from the gadget from time to time.

TTreat the “break time” as yours; do not be guilty of breathing away from the stress once in a while.

HHeal all the pain away by letting go and letting God.

EEntertain oneself by talking to a loved one in mini breaks; when you go back, pray to Him for wisdom, guidance, and courage to overcome the challenges at hand.
